Give Me Liberty
“Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbit it, Almighty God! I know now what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death.”
This quote by Patrick Henry stirs emotion in me each time I hear/read it.
I think the reason it is so powerful is not only because of the call for liberty that it entails, but because of his firm conviction towards something he considered to be an absolute truth.
He believed liberty was more important than false security or the outright chains of slavery.
He was unwavering. It was firmly rooted in his soul.
This quote reminds me of the bible verse from Joshua 24:15, where it says:
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Again, unwavering. For Joshua it was God or nothing.
Both men had this one thing in common. They had conviction.
Do we?
This week we are launching a new design around this principle of: Give Me Liberty - so stay tuned.
Have a Firm Conviction
Undoubtedly, we find ourselves in equally trying times as both Joshua and Patrick Henry.
The world is changing at a rapid pace.
Evil has seemingly fixing its place in every aspect of society.
Now, more than ever, we must have a firm conviction about what we believe.
Have we chosen God – as Joshua did?
Are we defending truth and freedom – as Patrick did?
Or are we unsure?
I am here to tell you that nothing less than a strong conviction will do.
If we are not fixed on truth, it will be impossible to stand by our “convictions” – or more importantly, survive what is coming.
It is my plea to you – and especially myself - that we firmly fix the precepts of truth in our minds so that we can all say – like Joshua and Patrick – that we will only accept and follow the truth.
We need this conviction.
Get close to God and understand His teachings.
Having this firm conviction is not a destination, rather it’s a journey – one that takes a lifetime.
It is something we must build every day.
The more determined our conviction for good, the more likely we will find ourselves on the right side of truth.
As for me and my house, we choose God and Liberty!
God bless,
